Credit Card Debt Elimination

Credit card debt elimination is a legal, unsecured program to help people pay off debt for a more secure future. Debt elimination agencies assist debtors by negotiating with their creditors to reduce the balances due and get rid of debts more quickly.

Each agency approaches debt differently and in some cases, credit can be negatively impacted until accounts are paid off. The agency negotiates with creditors on behalf of the debtor to get a reduced balance. Some agencies will recommend paying off the highest balances, some the smallest and others will consolidate all debts into a single monthly payment. The payment is made to the debt elimination agency and then distributed to all creditors until they are paid off. Often debtors are encouraged or required to stop using credit cards during the debt elimination process.

Unsecured credit card debts are covered under the credit card debt elimination process. There are a variety of different programs based on the debtor's credit rating, assets, income and level of debt. A credit counselor from the debt elimination agency discusses long and short term goals with debtors to develop a strategy for financial success. After the debt elimination process begins, debtors cannot establish new accounts until the program is completed. Debtors are expected to make timely monthly payments to the debt elimination agency until all debts are paid off.

Unresolved debt leads to financial problems and personal distress. Christians Against Poverty conducted research revealing 69 percent of debtors visited their physician because of stress related to debt and more than half found debt caused arguments with their partner. Credit card debt elimination programs help people relieve the stress of outstanding obligations they cannot cover. By reducing payments and establishing a new repayment schedule, debtors once again take control of their finances.
